New Member of VRPA ------------------ Dawn Ellis, to represent Commercialisation and PR Office interests, was welcomed as a new member of the VRPA. Current Status -------------- The current regional plan as adopted at the meeting on 6-Jul-2007 is available at: http://vue.ed.ac.uk/sl/plan/vue-2007-09-09-region-plan.jpg The current status of the region and reserved areas around it are shown in: http://vue.ed.ac.uk/sl/plan/vue-status-current.jpg All islands in this plan are active. Each has funding commitments for 3 years, i.e. to April 2010 through September 2010. Shared University islands have been provided by a number of funders: Vue by Information Services Edinburgh University by Development & Alumni Edinburgh Uplands and four open space regions (Vue North, Vue South, Edinburgh North and Edinburgh East) by Informatics In addition for their own School uses: School of Management has funded Vue NW (B2) Informatics has funded Informatics (D4) Web, Wiki and Mailing Lists --------------------------- The web site is at http://vue.ed.ac.uk and hosted within Informatics by Austin Tate. This web site will shortly be simplified and act as a simple pointer to more resources on the Wiki in future. The Vue Wiki has now changed URL from the Confluence pilot service location to its "permanent" home with URL https://www.wiki.ed.ac.uk/display/VueWiki/ There are 70 members on the vue@lists.ed.ac.uk (alias vue@ed.ac.uk) mailing list as at 30-Nov-2007. There is a new mailing list to reach all VRPA members vrpa@lists.ed.ac.uk. Austin Tate should be contacted to add names to the list. All members added to the list are also added (by James Stewart) to the Vue Wiki users list. Plans for the Vue Region ------------------------ Heriot Watt University has established its first island to the North of Vue region with island name "HeriotWatt University". Judy Robertson is point of contact. The previous VRPA meeting approved the placement of an island for the University's Centre for Contextual Theology close to Vue. Funding would come via Marcella Althaus-Reid. No date is announced yet. David Richardson reported that Informatics was planning a new island for commercial projects (not educationally discounted) with a suggested placement to the SE of Informatics. Square E4 or E5 is proposed. Order may be placed in January 2008. he will check if such a commercial island placement is allowed by Linden Labs. Austin Tate reported on discussions with the planned occupants of Old College. These are: Morag Watson (Library); Patricia Fisher (Talbot Rice Gallery); and with Ian Conn, Rob Tomlinson, Dawn Ellis and others from Corporate Communications and PR Office (Vue Reception, PR Office, Interview Rooms and Events Gallery). As previously reported, Development and Alumni are occupants of "College Annex" and the "Alumni Deck" area near Old College. Dawn Ellis described the plans by Corporate PR to establish an office in Old College to begin to use Second Life facilities. Austin Tate reported on initial discussions with Patricia Erskine for potential use of Vue for the College of Science and Engineering outreach programme and public engagement with science events. Plans for 10th December 2007 Vue Group Meeting ---------------------------------------------- Fiona Littleton is coordinating and had circulated a draft agenda, which was approved and can be sent out to the Vue mailing list. Next Steps ---------- Initial discussions on the democratisation process for the VRPA and Vue management was discussed. The aim will be to have a representative body that involves schools, units and groups involved with Vue, and a smaller active executive group of builders and region mangers who handle the shared areas and facilities on Vue. The aim will be to agree a process and move to a more democratic arrangement for Vue and the VRPA roughly one year in from the start of the group. i.e. by mid 2008.
